For the first time, the musée de l’Armée presents a temporary exhibition tracing 100 years of French military presence in French Indochina, from the conquest to the decolonization process. 300 original artifacts and work of arts illustrate the intersection of the histories of France,Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam throughout a chronological, educational and thematic tour aiming at a better understanding of the rich and complex French colonial history in Southeast Asia.

A sharp selection of original pieces from our collections are presented with artifacts and work of arts on loan from private collections and lending prestigious institutions renowned for the quality of their respective collections such as the Archives nationales d’outre-mer (French overseas territories archives), le Service historique de la Défense (French Defence Directorate of History), le musée de la Marine (head of France’s maritime museums), la Bibliothèque nationale de France (French national Library), the Quai Branly Museum, The Guimet Museum of Asian art, The Society of Foreign Missions of Paris and musée des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon (Museum and National Estate of Versailles)...

A chronological and thematic tour offers to the visitor an opportunity to explore the creation of French Indochina from 1859 to 1907, the life of colonial French Indochina and the national movements which emerged in the interwar period up to the collapse of the French Empire in the Far East.
