The Army Museum also has a sizeable photographic archive, with pictures of its collections and the built heritage of the Hôtel National des Invalides. On this page you will find a description of this archive and the terms of access and consultation.

The department of paintings and sculptures, prints cabinet, drawings and photographs of the Army Museum keeps an archive of around 100 000 images, covering:

  • the most emblematic items in the collections
  • typological series charting the development of the French Army's weaponry, equipment and uniform, from the Middle Ages to the present day
  • important iconographic series about arms drills, uniforms, fights, sieges and battles in French history.

As well as shots of the items in the collections, there is an archive about the architecture of the Hôtel National des Invalides, as well as the Emperor's tomb.

15 000 high-definition digital files are available on the RMN photo agency's website:

If you need additional information or are looking for something specific, an Army Museum archivist will be happy to help you.
