Christmas at the Invalides

From 15 to 31 December 2017, celebrate Christmas at the Invalides!

After a huge success last year, the Army museum organises the second edition of “Noël aux Invalides” (Christmas at the Invalides) from 15 to 31 December 2017. A unique programme of events with lots of different cultural and fun activities for all visitors to enjoy with their family and friends! The 2017 edition programme offers various activities around the temporary exhibition “The life of a soldier. From Ancient Rome to the Present Day” as well as a fantastic illuminations at the Dome Church.

Experience the life of a soldier!

Historical activities and reconstitutions around the exhibition “The life of a soldier. From Ancient Rome to the Present Day” (until 28 January 2018).  In partnership with the associations Gladius Scutumque and Armédieval.

In the life of a roman soldier

Carrying a Roman shield, participate in large military manoeuvres, recreate the famous “tortoise” formation and enjoy demonstrations of Roman fighting techniques! On Saturday 23 December, discover the evolution of the Roman soldier through centuries (military equipment, everyday objects…) with members of a historical reconstitution group.

In the life of a medieval soldier

Discover the everyday life of soldiers in Paris in the 13th century (sergeants, archers, knights...): exhibition of everyday life accessories and equipment, historical reconstitution group members, and demonstrations of fighting techniques from that age.

A trebuchet in the Main Courtyard

Under the supervision of a special host and his assistant officer, explore and activate a medieval siege engine (educational trebuchet). Will you be handy enough to aim successfully at the target placed in the Main Courtyard?

Lighting up at the Dome

Every evening at dusk and until 7.30pm, come and visit the tomb of Napoleon I and the Dome Church specially illuminated for Christmas. An extraordinary and enchanting show for all ages.

Practical information

  • The museum is open every day, except on 25 December, from 10.00am until 5.00pm (5.30pm from 23 December and 4.30pm on 24 December).
  • “Lighting up at the Dome” show from 4.30pm until 7.30pm at the Dome Church.
  • Open access to all activities within the limit of the available seats. This programme may be subject to changes.
  • Every day until 7.30pm: Discover festive menus and special Christmas offers at the restaurant Le Carré des Invalides and the Museum Book and gift shop.
