Introduction to the exhibition
Handkerchief
piece of cotton or linen, most often square in shape, originally intended for bodily convenience but for which this initial use rapidly evolved into use in the domestic or practical spheres or as clothing (neck scarf, hat, etc.). It can be plain or printed with decorative and/or figurative motifs.
Scarf
piece of clothing, generally square in shape, mainly made of silk, worn knotted in a triangle around the neck, shoulders or head, for the purpose of looking decorative or protecting the wearer from the cold.
Carré
term equivalent to the scarf, with a more specific connotation in the world of fashion.
