Napoleon had a profound impact on the history of military strategy,* even though he did not have time to theorize his exploits. Instead they have been analysed by an endless list of commentators, thinkers, theorists and historians, most notably Jomini and Clausewitz.

Through their work, the Napoleonic model has deeply affected the subsequent evolution of military strategy.* It has constantly been reflected upon and taught, both in theoretical and practical terms. Napoleon declared that he looked up to seven great military leaders. In death he joined them, having surpassed them in every way.
