The society of friends of the army museum

The Society of Friends of the Musée de l'Armée (SAMA), founded in 1909, is one of the oldest organisations providing wide-ranging support and assistance to the museum.

The Society of Friends of the Musée de l'Armée (SAMA), an officially recognised non-profit organisation aims to highlight the museum in France and abroad and take part in its development. In its work, the SAMA is backed by a French and international network made up of 1,100 members, who are kept regularly informed through:

  • conferences, visits, etc.
  • publication of a quarterly bulletin with news from the museum, its activities and members
  • publication of a scientific review twice yearly, including articles focusing on the life of the museum, changes to the departments, exhibitions, major events and overseas museums dedicated to weaponry and military history.

Alongside activities aimed at its members, SAMA has always maintained a policy of enriching the museum's collections by donating paintings, documents and objects (uniforms, weapons, emblems, etc.). The donations are financed solely by membership fees. The Society has also worked hand in hand with the museum to acquire collectors' objects. SAMA encourages and facilitates any private donations its members wish to make to the museum, most often anonymously.
